Felix’s Caketeria to open in Newtown on Saturday June 5th

Felix’s Caketeria, the long awaited bakery and cupcakery, will open its doors on the first Saturday in June to coincide with Newtown’s “First Saturday.” Felix Papadakis, 29 (okay 44), has been baking since he was a little boy. “I learned to bake at my mother’s apron” says, Felix, who now cites to a string of events, which led him and his partner Randall to this endeavor. His most recent event, which saw Felix suffer from a Grade 2 brain tumor, caused him to pause, think about things and realize that although possibilities abound for all of us, at the end of the day it all starts with you. “You choose how to live and when faced with a traumatic event, which everyone will be faced with at some point, you decide how to react…….and it’s not about the things that happen to us but it’s the way we react to them that really matters.”

“So now, I never say no to a possibility because that possibility might lead to another and another and another….. and my life is testament to that.” After law school, he practiced law for some 20 years. In between he bounced around New York’s personal injury legal scene, NY’s Seventh Avenue and Guardian Life Insurance Company. His partner Randall is the CEO of the company, which they run out of the former Mother of 5 Maternity Boutique, in Newtown, PA.

“When I met Randall, we decided to move in together and lived on the upper West Side of NYC. One year, we decided to visit a friend in New Hope.” They count that visit as another of life’s mysteries that helped them decide that Bucks County is where they wanted to have a weekend place. After living in Carversville for over 10 years, the two decided to take the plunge and live full time in Bucks County. He currently resides in Erwinna PA, with Randall and their two dogs Effie and Curtis. Another of life’s possibilities? Read on. “Well, one day I was meeting a client who had just bought a bakery. He asked me to come and join him, maybe work part time, because he saw that I was a real foodie…..so I did. Little did I know that that decision would alter my life forever. Randall had been unemployed for two years. I thought, how great would this be if Rand could come and work here, and I could work here too. And that is exactly what happened.” Law of attraction anyone? Randall concentrates on running the business while Felix runs the creative end of the company. It’s a perfect match.

Felix’s Caketeria will concentrate on cupcakes, wedding cakes, and the type of birthday or specialty cakes that you simply cannot get in Newtown or New Hope for that matter. “We make delicious cakes using artisan ingredients. Our buttercream is heavenly. Our fillings are second to none…and every layer gets a coating of flavored syrups to ensure moistness….the cakes literally melt in your mouth.” And as far as decorating goes, Felix concentrates on the celebration cakes which customers flock to him for…… “Fondant on top of buttercream in a variety of shapes and sizes….the cakes are playful and whimsical and exactly what a birthday or celebration cake should be!”

In addition to custom cakes, which are available for order, there will be a selection of bars and brownies, cookies, 6-inch celebration cakes as well as cupcakes galore! His favorite flavor? The Elvis Cupcake…..a banana cupcake filled with peanut butter cream cheese and iced in chocolate ganache….so divine!

Another cupcake bakery you might think? Well think again. “The thing about cupcakes is that they are little bites of cake really, and with the fillings and frostings you can take one cupcake and make it into a variety of flavors…..a yellow cake cupcake is case in point….it serves as the basis for the Boston Crème cupcake and the Coconut Pineapple cupcake….filling the cupcakes is really what separates us……and the fillings should compliment both the icing and cupcake itself.”

Flavors? Chocolate Peanut Butter Cupcakes with cocktail peanut garnish…Red Velvet Cupcakes, a Southern favorite…..Carrot Cake Cupcakes or even Banana Chocolate Chip Cupcakes with a creamy nutella filling and chocolate ganache topping! Felix’s creative mind knows no limits so come one come all!

Felix and Randall are looking forward to being a part of the community and are happy to welcome you to their store at 5 W. Washington Avenue Newtown PA and remember to “live and indulge!”

  3. Hello,
I had the pleasure of having Felix make my son, Roman’s, communion cake back in May, just before his new site opened. The cake was a hit and I am heading over to the Caketeria for husband’s birthday cake.

Felix, I am the food writer for the Advance, Yardley News and 3 other local newpapers , so I feel a cake article coming soon. We’ll talk.
    xoxo,
    BVT
